Exeter Run Club unofficially began back when a handful of doctors from Exeter Hospital would gather and go out for runs.  Then, on July 1, 2013 one of our members suggested that a group do a run that she dubbed “Reach our Beach.” They started from the Exeter bandstand and ran to the ocean; hence the Exeter Run Club was born.  Over the next few years more and more runners began to gather at our Sunday morning runs that continued to begin at the Exeter bandstand.  Glen Wilkinson decided in 2015 that we should become an official running club.

The Club is organized to provide a structured organization for the purpose of promoting running as a sport and healthy lifestyle within our community.  The purpose of the club was to promote running in the area, provide group training runs, host educational lectures about topics of interest for runners, and hold area races, as well as support other races. We offer club fun runs, training runs, and social events.

We have partnered with several organizations to provide training and races for all levels of runners and walkers. Two years ago, we partnered with the Exeter Area YMCA and established the Thanks for Giving race.  The Club uses the proceeds from its activities to support local charities.  The Club is open to runners of all abilities. We encourage our members to get involved by running or volunteering at our races or serving on our Board.

Our mission is to provide organizational, social, and philanthropic activities that foster injury-free health and fitness to members of the community, predominantly through endurance sports.

We usually meet on Sunday mornings at 8:00 in the winter at the Exeter bandstand (with a 7:30 newbie run when requested) and 7:00 a.m. in the summer, but there is also a group that meets on Wednesday nights for a Rail Trail run, and a group that meets on Thursday mornings at 5:15 a.m. Always check our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ExeterRunClub).  Routes and paces vary, but no one is ever left behind.

There is no fee to run with ERC, but there are benefits to becoming a member. Come join us any day you like. Let us know that you’re coming so 1) we can hook you up with a group of runners at about your same pace, and 2) we know to wait for you if you’re coming.
